OSU Soil Testing

In our Diagnostic Center we maintain an extensive library of materials to help solve your diagnostic dilemmas.  We also maintain a catalog of several hundred fact sheets from Oklahoma State University on almost every topic related to gardening in Oklahoma.

In addition, you can find  the most up to date information on current pest alerts that are affecting our area such as crape myrtle bark scale or the likely devastating invasion of the emerald ash borer heading our way.

Our Demonstration Garden is a great place to learn more about what grows well in our soil and climate. The gardens contain over 200 annuals, perennials, shrubs and trees including a wonderful espalier pear tree.

When you visit the garden be sure to pick up one of the maps as the garden is divided into zones and the map will identify all the plants in each zone. The garden is open 7 days a week during daylight hours. Please come visit one of our Master Gardener treasures. Click for Plant List & Map of Garden

Soil testing is a critical part of becoming a successful gardener. Without accurate information concerning the pH of your soil as well as it’s nitrogen, phosphorus, or potassium levels, there is no way to know what type of fertilizer or how much we should be using.

A soil test from OSU costs $10 but will likely be the best $10 you ever spent on your garden. Click the link for information on how to gather a proper soil sample before bringing it in to our office. Typically it takes less than 2 weeks for you to receive the results of your test with nutrient recommendations from OSU. Click for Soil Test Instructions

Our Diagnostic Center is staffed by knowledgeable Master Gardeners Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 4:00 who are ready and willing to help solve your gardening dilemmas. You can ask questions, seek advice, and even bring in a sick plant for a diagnosis and treatment recommendation.

You can reach us at the Diagnostic Center by calling, emailing, or just dropping by. Each year, several thousand residents of Tulsa County take advantage of this valuable resource to help them become better gardeners. Come see us, call at 918-746-3701, or email us a mg@tulsamastergardeners.org.
