    The Plant of the Week site gives you the option of searching for a plant by botanical name, common name, or family name. OR, you can check out the image index, the list of plants featured, download the plant-of-the-week calendar or sign up for email notification of the plant of the week.

    Plant Facts – the Ohio State fact sheet database of 46 land grant universities with over 59,000 pages of Extension fact sheets and bulletins that provide a concentrated source of plant related information. The Research and Teaching section provides information from 40 university departments across the United States with over 245,000 pages related to admissions, degree requirements, career opportunities, research projects, and online courses.

    Missouri Botanical Garden: The web site is one of the finest botanical gardens in the United States. In Plants in Bloom you will find lovely pictures of plants currently in bloom; in MBGnet find out about our earth, the biomes of the earth and ecosystems.

    Internet Directory for Botany is an index to botanical information available on the Internet with links to literally hundreds of websites of plants, gardens, research, and botanical information. A gold mine of information.
  • The National Biological Information Infrastructure
    National Biological Information Infrastructure includes current biological issues, disciplines, geographic perspectives, teacher resources and data & information resources. The digital image library includes animals, environmental issues, habitats/landscapes, and plants with complete information for each image.
  • Gardening from the BBC
    BBC Gardening: although this site is from across the pond it is an excellent site with information on garden design, gardening with children, advice on pests and diseases, plant finder and profiles, and growing your own vegetables. You can even sign up for a gardening newsletter.
  • National Turf Grass Evaluation Program
  • If you are interested in seeing scientific research on turfgrasses this is the site for you. The trials include most popular grasses and gives results for individual states (Stillwater the closest site for Tulsa).

  • Excellent information from land grant colleges surrounding Oklahoma. Because universities stress different aspects of horticulture, a second opinion can be very useful. Note that "Land Grant Institutions in the USA" is a list of all land grant colleges.

    A comprehensive site for horticulture in Texas. Although geared for those who garden in Texas many useful tips that apply equally to gardening in Oklahoma. Check out the Texas Superstar selections for Texas proven plants — many will also grow in Oklahoma.

  • Land Grant Institutions in the USA

  • OK Plant Identification Given a speciman, this site offers guides in the form of images of bark, stems, fruit and other diagnostic characteristics. Search can be made by common name or Genus.
  • World Wide Flowering Plant Family Identification
    This site belongs to Colby University, located in Maine
    and does good work, if you understand terms like
    venation, inflorescences, sympodial, and a few more.
    Identification is down to the Family level. From there on
    it is a cinch. Much easier than it sounds.
  • A Weed Identification Web Site
    This site is about weeds found in New Jersey, but they seem to have many of the same weeds found in Oklahoma. Weeds seem to be equal opportunity growers. Search can be done by Common Name, Latin Name, and Thumbnails. For dummies like me the thumbnails are the way to go.
  • The International Plant Index
    The International Plant Names Index is a database of the names and associated basic bibliographical details of all seed plants, ferns and fern allies. In addition to searching plant names, you can search authors and publications.
  • National Plants Database
    Natural Resources Conservation Service provides this plant database of standardized information about the vascularplants, mosses, liverworts, hornworts, and lichens of the U.S. and its territories. There are plant profiles, plant images and distribution by state with other related information about each plant.
  • Plant database, common name/botannical name
    The HortiPlex database contains plant images and data as well as links to information sources, images and vendors at other sites. Searches may be limited to: just those records with images or links to images; records with vendor links; or, records of botanical taxa.

  • Diagnostic Keys to Major Tree Fruit Diseases in the Mid-Atlantic Region
    Alhough developed for the Mid-Atlantic Region this site provides diagnostic keys for deciduous tree fruit diseases to aid field personnel in the identification of diseases. The keys are arranged to guide the user through a series of logically arranged statements describing symptoms and signs of fruit tree diseases. There are images of insects and diseases to aid in identification.
