SELECTING AN ARBORIST
Master Gardeners are often asked for recommendations about hiring an arborist. Our reply is always to hire a ISA certified arborist and avoid someone who has a chainsaw and truck and decides to go into the tree trimming business.
Arborists are professionals who specialize in the management of trees and other woody plants. They are qualified to diagnose and treat disease and insect problems. They also have extensive training in pruning and removing trees.
Qualified arborists are certified nationally by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). Certification requires attending approved training programs, taking standard tests and then re-certifying every three years.
Our trees are enormous assets—environmentally, esthetically and financially—choose someone to care for them as you might for a personal health professional.
For an excellent source of information about tree care and selecting an arborist, go to the website Treesaregood.com. They list all of the ISA certified arborists, including those in our area. They also have much more information, such as determining the value of trees on your property.
